A major fire broke out in a plush restobar in Kamala Mills compound in Lower Parel, Mumbai on Friday around 12:40 am. The fire started from a rooftop eatery 1 Above caught flames touching another joint called Mojo pub and claimed a total of 14 lives and injured around 21 people.
As per reports on Mumbai Mirror, the main reason behind the fire is said to be lack of fire safety measures in the premises. It is said that the eatery ahd many flouts including absence of fire extinguishers, no proper fire exits and illegal construction. In addition to it, there were illegal hookah set up and fire flame games that were going on at the spot of accident.
Mumbai’s civic body of governance BMC has been investigating the causes, of which the major reasons are said to be illegal hookah provisions and alcohol flame games.
However, some officials have been suspended for negligence in the investigation as well as norms control of the places. It is said that there are 34 restaurants inside Kamala Mills compound and many have flouts in their running.
